Arriving at Cape Breton Island

Our big blue bus carried us from Halifax to Cape Breton Island where we would spend the next two days. Cape Breton Island is the east-northeast part of Nova Scotia, connected to the mainland by the Canso Causeway.

Cape Breton has several claims to fame:

The summer home of Alexander Graham Bell is near Baddeck. The home remains and is occupied most summers by Bell's great granddaughter.
It contains a large salt-water fjord, Bras d'Or Lake. Bras d'Or is probably French for Golden Arm.
The northern portion of the island is the home of the Cape Breton Highland National Park. The Cape Breton Highlands are a rugged patch of mountains - part of the Appalachian mountain chain - in the northern section of the island.
