After encounters with turtles, dolphins, and other critters, Bill and I found ourselves sunburned and tired. We scaled back our activities for the next few port visits. In fact, we did not even leave the ship in Guatemala.
This port is devoted to container shipping and has limited tourist facilities.
We signed up for a river boat tour of the Belize River where we saw manatees, fresh water crocodiles, bats, and various birds. We heard howler monkeys, but did not see them. Unfortunately, I was unable to photograph any of these critters. My only interesting picture is of the tourist area in Belize City. Oh well.
Costa Maya, in English “Mayan Coast”, is a relatively new Mexican cruise port destination, located on the Yucatan peninsula. The port town itself has a variety of tourist attractions, including shops and a beach. Not all that many Mexicans live near there though.
