Grand Floral Parade
After debarking from the American Queen, our plan was to stay for a few days at a downtown Portland hotel and do some exploring. Which we did. What was not in the plan was the city of Portland was having a major event that weekend, part of which was the “Grand Floral Parade”. This parade had an effect on our visit. Our taxi was unable to deliver us to our hotel due to blocked off streets. We schlepped our luggage four blocks from the nearest road barrier to the hotel. Then, rather than exploring, we took the hotel’s offer of street-side chairs and watched the parade.
